Q: How does the custom ring process begin?
It usually starts with an email conveying a design idea. Just send pictures, sketches or descriptions of designs or design elements which interest you. That starts the dialogue.
Q: How much more does a custom ring cost?
That depends upon a number of factors. Designs which are similar to designs of our regular products may not cost much more. Other times it may be surprisingly expensive for us to replicate by hand a common design which is machine-made inexpensively in a factory. Cost differences are not always intuitive, so it’s best to ask.
Q: What information do you need to prepare a quote for me?
In addition to pictures, etc., we’ll need to know:
- Ring size
- Preferred metal
- Ring width
- Stone type
- Stone size (you may provide a small range, if you’re not sure)
- Budget (if you are comfortable sharing this information, it can help us to guide you with decisions regarding metal, stones, design, etc.)
Quotes are always presented by email.
Q: How long does the process take?
We’ll usually acknowledge your inquiry within 1-2 business days. Once we have all the information we need from you, preparing the quote may take a few days, as there are often several people involved. If you don’t hear from us as expected, please don’t get frustrated. But do reach out, so we can make sure the lines of communication are working. If you have a deadline, please let us know early (and often).
Once a quote is approved, making the ring may take 2-8 weeks, but it’s usually a month or less.
Q: How do we pay?
We’ll normally ask for a credit card approval for the full charge before we start. Your card will actually be charged when we get closer to shipping.
