Why is Third-Party Certification important?
The term 'recycled' has become a popular selling point in jewelry. Unfortunately, the term isn't regulated in the jewelry industry the way that 'organic' has been in the food industry. The US Federal Trade Commission and the International Standards Organization (ISO) have issued voluntary standards and guidelines for environmental marketing claims, but enforcement procedures appear weak. The result is that unscrupulous jewelers can make unsubstantiated claims without much fear of reprisal.
In this unregulated atmosphere, it becomes incumbent on consumers to demand proof of green claims and for jewelers to provide that verification. greenKarat is proud to provide third party certification of our recycled content.
